How to: Shorten your Shimano hydraulic brake hoses
Tidy up your flappy brake hoses, This is a very simple job that can be done at home with very simple tools in just a few minutes.
WARNING DO NOT PULL YOUR BRAKE LEVER WHILST THE CABLE IS CUT! IT WILL SQUIRT OUT BRAKE FLUID. AND YOU WILL THEN NEED TO BLEED YOUR BRAKES!
Tools / parts for the job:
clamp and hose blocks
hammer or other tool (for pushing the barb into the hose)
Step by Step;
First slide off the rubber connecting hose cover
Fit the clamps and cable blocks to your desired length,
Cut the hose leaving 5mm protruding from the blocks.
Push in the Barb
Remove the clamp and hose blocks
Unscrew the connecting bolt from the lever
Slide the connecting bolt over the hose
Slide the olive over the hose
Push hose into the lever and tighten the connecting bolt
Once tight test lever, check for leaks
Refit fit connecting bolt cover.
Stand back and admire your handy work AND HAVE A CUPPA :)
